How to find your path in design

When you first start thinking about being a designer, it might feel like there are so many choices, like a giant candy store with every kind of candy you can imagine! It's exciting, but also a little too much sometimes.

Imagine you’re in a situation where you're surrounded by a million paths to choose from. You might wonder, "How do I pick the right one when there are so many?"

Here’s a helpful tip: you don't need to know right away which path you want to follow. It's okay just to know which paths you don't want to take.

Think about it like this: say no to things that don't make you happy or help you grow. If something isn't fun or interesting, you don't have to stick with it. By saying no to these things, you'll see that there aren't really a million paths, but maybe just five or ten, and maybe even one that feels just right for you.

This way of thinking helps you not feel too crowded by too many choices and makes it easier for you to see clearly. Instead of feeling confused by too many options, you’ll feel sure about what you don’t like, which helps you figure out what you do like.

Try writing down things you know you don’t like or don’t want to do. This list can help you understand better what you do want to do.

In design and in life, sometimes the best thing we can do is say "no." Say no to things that hold you back or stop you from being creative. This makes room for new things that help you grow, explore, and take on exciting challenges that make you better.

Remember—sometimes the best way to find what you need is by clearing out what you don’t need.
